... Arcticulates® ...By: K Fields~ Ice Sculpture Winners of 2009 ~(Single Ice Block Category)All Photos by Rhonda Konicki I wanted to post some pictures of the ice sculptures done last year in March. These pictures are the winners. This post has the pictures of all the sculptures carved using one block of ice. The details to these sculptures are amazing. The cold weather and snow piling up outside have me looking forward to the new sculptures that will be done in just a march this year. I admire the people who like to work with ice and create such beauty to look at, transforming long dreary winter days into beauty. 1st Place and Peoples Choice in Realistic Surfacing Kingfisher

One wintery morning in Alaska, a newly married Sourdough (long time Alaskan) and his Cheechako (new to Alaska) bride were eating breakfast and listening to the radio. They heard the announcer say, "We are going to have 8-10 inches of snow today. You must park your car on the even-numbered side of the street, so the snowplow can get through." The wife went out and moved her car. A week later while they are eating breakfast, the radio announcer said, "We are expecting 10-12 inches of snow today, you will need to move your car to the odd-numbered side of the street so the snowplow can get through." So the wife went out and moved her car again. The next week, while they were eating breakfast, the radio announcer said, "We are expecting 12-14 inches of snow today and you must park..." Then the power went off! The wife was very upset. With a worried look on her face she said to her Sourdough hubby, "Honey, I don't know what to do. Which side of the street am I supposed to park on?" With the love and understanding in his voice that all Sourdoughs who are married to Cheechakos exhibit, her hubby said, "Why don't you just leave it in the garage this time." They are one of the largest carnivores (meat eater) on earth... yet they are depicted as cute cuddly animals in commercials and advertisements.... Another is that the Polar Bear count has grown impressively since they have regulated the hunting of them in the 1970s... Yet according to some groups that are using the Polar Bear for their poster child...the Polar Bears are few in number and will be extinct soon... IF WE DON'T DO SOMETHING QUICK... but... they have been pretty vague about what the "DO SOMETHING QUICK" should be, except that we should donate lots and lots of money and land to the cause... and preservation (???) of Polar Bears... Don't get me wrong...I am all for taking care of our wildlife so that my great great great grandchildren will be able to see real wild animals alive and thriving in their natural habitat. Oh! So what can the average everyday just trying to survive myself person believe?
